Bushnell Brown Bread
Found this recipe while reading a biography of the canadian folk music great stan rogers. this was published in the book as his grandmother bushnell's bread. i tinkererd with the original recipe because i found it too sweet and too salty. it's great! enjoy
Steps
Proof the yeast in 1 cup of warm water for 10 minutes.
Cut the lard into the dry ingregients.
Make a well and add the yeast mixture and molasses.
Add the water a little at a time until you have a pliable dough.
Knead on a lightly floured board for several minutes.
Allow to rise until double , placing in a greased covered bowl.
Form into loaves and place in greased bread loaf pans.
Allow to rise until doubled.
Bake 300f for 1 hour.
